Greetings on behalf of the Ph.Discover project.
全国の大学の中でも北海道大学の博士後期課程では、高度な専門性を修得した学生が毎年500人以上学位を取得しております。博士課程修了者のキャリアパスとして10年ほど前までは大学や公的研究機関等のアカデミアに職を求めるのが常例となっていましたが、最近では産業界においても新たなイノベーションの担い手となる高度な専門性と創造力を持つ人材が求められるようになり、博士課程修了者のキャリアパスの拡張に、大学も、学生も、企業も期待を高めています。しかし、一方でこれまでの博士課程教育では十分ではないことも指摘されてきています。そのため、従来型の博士課程教育の改革と大学教職員の意識変革が急務となってきました。
本学でも、産業界をはじめとした社会の多様な場面で活躍できるグローバル人材の育成を目指して、博士課程教育リーディングプログラム「物質科学フロンティアを開拓するAmbitiousリーダー育成プログラム」（ALP）を2013年からスタートさせ、多くの企業から多様なご支援をいただいております。既に44名が修了し、産業界を中心に活躍しております。2019年度をもちましてALPへの文部科学省からの補助期間は終了しましたが、これまでの実績を継承、発展させ、その教育成果・社会的意義をさらに明確に社会に目に見える形で示すために、本学の事業として活動を継続しております。
In addition, based on the achievements of the ALP, we will start the Ambitious Program for Pioneering Smart Materials Science (SMatS) in 2021 as a new graduate school education that links material science, mathematics, and information fields, aiming to develop human resources in data science. We also carry out D-DRIVE etc. Furthermore, in September 2021, we will be selected for the JST: Challenging Research Program for Next-Generation Researchers, which provides financial support, research support, and career development to doctoral course students. We have just started the “DX Doctoral Fellowship,” which supports the education of human resources who can understand DX, which is necessary to integrate it with other fields, who can extract and solve problems using data and IT, and who can contribute to the region.
このように新たな大学院教育を目指したプロジェクトを支えるプラットフォームとして、高度な専門性を企業人として生かせる博士の育成を目指す「大学院教育改革プロジェクトPh.Discover（ピーエイチディスカバー）」（https://phdiscover.jp/）を2020年2月より運営しております。
This project aims to discover the potential of Ph.D. human resources by considering the future of graduate school education not only at universities but also with students, graduates, and society, and providing a forum for information exchange. It's an initiative. I would like to share information with other universities and people in other fields who are working on the same issues beyond the boundaries of universities, fields, and specialties.
First, in order to accelerate the progress of this project, we will support activities such as exchanging opinions with various stakeholders, surveying the situation inside and outside the university, verifying and proposing practical initiatives at our university and at universities in Japan and overseas. We hope that you will understand the purpose and significance of this project, and that this web magazine will contribute to the expansion of the career paths of doctoral course graduates and the development of human resources who will support future innovation by linking students, companies, and universities.
