The Hokkaido University–University of California, Berkeley Joint Symposium on Chemical Sciences and Engineering was held on January 7, 2016. Totally 138 students and staff from both universities participated, discussing developments in cutting-edge materials science. Stimulating presentations were given on a wide range of research areas such as chemical engineering, inorganic materials, and biomolecular chemistry. I hope to keep up the new connections I made at this symposium. Furthermore, I would like to participate in more interdisciplinary events like this in the future.
