The Role of Science Communication in Rebuilding Fukushima <BR>~ Report on Hokkaido University CoSTEP Special Symposium

A special symposium “To a Memorable Future ~ Rebuilding Fukushima and Science and Technology Communication” was co-hosted by Hokkaido University CoSTEP, which is an integrated program of science and technology communication education courses on March 7, 2015. Mr. Nao Kuboda, who directed the movie Ieji (“Road to home”) along with Mr. Takuro Shinano from the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization, and Mr. Norio Honda from NPO “Genki ni naro Fukushima” gave introductions to the present situation and future prospects of Fukushima at the event. We also saw images of Fukushima filmed by CoSTEP students. After hearing stories about radiation contaminated agricultural land and life at temporary housing projects, I felt the urgency for better communication of science between researchers and citizens.
