Outreach Exercises: I Was Able to Communicate the Fun of Science

On August 21, 2016, at the “Summer Science Yataimura” (village of stalls) held at the Shizuoka Science Museum RU KU RU (in Shizuoka City), I manned a booth called “☆The Mysteries of Light☆” as part of the Outreach Exercises for the Communication in Science & Technology Education & Research Program. Our seven-member unit split into two groups, and we presented two booths for general visitors, particularly children: “Drawing with Transparent Ink,” which used cutting-edge luminescent materials, and “Stained Glass with Cellophane Tape,” which used cellophane tape. About 200 people visited the exhibit booth in 2 hours and 30 minutes, a short duration. When we saw the constant expression of amazement of all the visitors who experienced these booths, we felt confident that we had sufficiently succeeded in terms of “communicating the fun of science”.
