A “Professional Ethics Workshop for Researchers, Using Flip Teaching” was held on October 30, 2015. After a lecture by Shunzo Majima, Associate Professor at the Center for Applied Ethics and Philosophy of the Graduate School of Letters, Hokkaido University, 14 program students split into three groups to discuss “the ethics of announcing research.” While many students were unaccustomed to an active learning approach to classwork, they obviously enjoyed the process of synthesizing the debate and the discovery that there were multiple points of view. It was an opportunity for the participants to experience research ethics firsthand as an issue through group work.
