2023年4月5日（水）、2023年度北海道大学スマート物質科学を拓くアンビシャスプログラム（以下、SMatS）第3期生採用式が理学部本館大会議室にて執り行われました。このプログラムは、博士後期課程の大学院生に対して、専門分野の研究にとどまらず、スマート物質科学力ならびに社会実装実現力を養成するものです。武次徹也コーディネーターが3名のプログラム生に認定証を授与しました。

Congratulations to all of you who have been adopted into the 3rd gen. All the faculty members in charge of the program welcome you.

SMatS is a graduate school education program unique to Hokkaido University that started in the 2021 academic year. It's made up. With the incorporation of national universities, a situation was created in which each university had to independently take up the programs presented by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Materials Science Innovation Led by Catalysts” was adopted. As part of that pledge, in 2010 Chemical Sciences and Engineering to which you all belong, was established. The fact that Professor Akira Suzuki, who earned a degree in chemistry at School of Science Science and was engaged in education and research at School of Engineering Applied Chemistry, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry this year was a big tailwind.

そして博士課程教育リーディングプログラム「物質科学フロンティアを開拓するAmbitiousリーダー育成プログラム（ALP）」が2013年に始動し、数理科学と科学技術コミュニケーションを導入することで、物質科学における異分野融合を促進しました。2018年には、世界トップレベル研究拠点プログラムICReDD（化学反応創成研究拠点）が始動し、計算科学、情報科学、実験科学を融合することで、人類にとって重要な化学反応を発見する速度を加速する研究拠点が誕生しました。2021年にはICReDDに在籍するBenjamin List特任教授がノーベル化学賞を受賞したのは記憶に新しいところです。

SMatS is an educational program that nurtures the next generation of human resources in this field, combining the characteristics of a leading educational program and ICReDD, a research base.

Through SMatS, learn the practical skills of mathematical science, computational science, and information science, and at the same time, actively engage in activities that are conscious of the fusion of different fields. The 3 years of self-restraint due to the corona crisis has eased considerably, so I think there will be more opportunities to go abroad. I wish you all the best in your fight.
