I was in charge of the fourth installment of the "Ph. Dreams" series of reports by graduate students Hokkaido University Takuya Usui, a 7th term student who was hired by Ambitious Leader's Program Fostering Future Leaders to Open New Frontiers in Materials Science (hereinafter referred to as ALP) in 2020 (Hokkaido University Graduate School of Life Science It is. ALP is an educational program that fosters human resources who study cross-disciplinary studies centered on material science, cultivate high abilities as members of society, and who will play an active role internationally in a wide range of fields such as not only academic and research institutions but also private companies after obtaining a degree. Although the subsidy period as a subsidy project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology ended in March 2020, it continues to be active as a project of Hokkaido University.
I graduated from Kochi University as a so-called external student, crossed two oceans, and went on to graduate school at Hokkaido University. The reason for this is not only that I was attracted to my current research and my supervisor, Professor Yao, but also that I was fascinated by Hokkaido, which has unparalleled snowfall and overwhelming nature in Japan.
My hobby is traveling, and I love that extraordinary time. I have been to many different places so far. North India is particularly impressive. When I used a taxi, I was taken to an office or slum that was not my destination, or when I saw a group dancing proudly on the highway, and ended up dancing together. was spreading. At that time, I was impatient and anxious, but now it's the best memory.
The reason why I took ALP is because I wanted to grow myself. When I was an undergraduate, I was half-hearted in my part-time job and circles, but I devoted myself to my research and experienced the “enjoyment of growth” and the “expansion of the world.” I decided to go on to graduate school because I wanted to further develop myself through my favorite "research". I was lucky that Hokkaido University had a program for graduate students called ALP. It seems that you can deepen your expertise and hone your comprehensive human skills.
Well, since last year, the new corona virus has changed people's lifestyle. I experienced the convenience of classes and academic conferences going online. On the other hand, I rediscovered the value of experiences using the five senses. For me, like going on a trip, I realized that nearby restaurants also have a “delicious” atmosphere that can only be experienced there. I hope that the coronavirus will subside soon and that people around the world will be able to return to their daily lives with peace of mind.
