March 10, 2021, Hokkaido University The closing ceremony for the eight Ambitious Leader's Program Fostering Future Leaders to Open New Frontiers in Materials Science (ALP) third-term students was held School of Science It was held in a large conference room, including simultaneous distribution overseas. ALP is an educational program that fosters human resources who study cross-disciplinary studies centered on material science, cultivate high abilities as members of society, and who will play an active role internationally in a wide range of fields such as not only academic and research institutions but also private companies after obtaining a degree. Although the subsidy period as a subsidy project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology ended in March 2020, it continues to be active as a project of Hokkaido University. After the certificate was awarded, all the participants gave greetings.
A summary of greetings from graduates
Mr. Yuji Komatsu: Through ALP, I experienced various things, and I believe that this has led to my personal growth. Since I was studying abroad for the last two years, I was not able to participate in a corporate consortium with my classmates, but I was able to obtain credits with the help of my juniors, the 4th generation. I will do my best to follow in the footsteps of my great seniors.
Mr. Takuro Tsutsumi: First of all, I would like to thank all the teachers and staff who guided me in ALP. What left the biggest impression on me was spending time in the mathematics lab during the interdisciplinary lab visit. I feel once again that I was able to open up a new research field through repeated discussions with professors in the Department of Mathematics. I will be employed as a Postdoctoral Fellow in my laboratory from April, so I would like to make full use of the overwhelming expertise and perspective that I have cultivated at ALP to play an active role as a researcher who can contribute to society.
Ms. Yuka Fumino: I was very impressed with the different field lab visits and research outreach activities. I think the most attractive thing about ALP is that you can have various experiences that you cannot get in research. I will be working at "Tokuyama Co., Ltd." from April. It is likely that my research will be in a field that is unrelated to the organic chemistry that I have been involved in up until now, but ALP gave me the opportunity to challenge myself in a different field, so I would like to make use of that experience. Thank you very much.
Hayate Yamagata: I was one of the few mathematics majors to participate. There were no mathematics students in the same class, so everyone around me was from a different field. For example, I think that I was able to grow as a person in a situation where cultural values and sense of time were completely different. Also, with the support of ALP, I actively participated in overseas activities. Thanks to that, I was able to participate in an international researcher network. Last year, I spent time in the United States, but due to the coronavirus, I was forced to return to Japan. However, I am still able to continue my research through online discussions with overseas professors through my research. From now on, I would like to make the most of my activities at ALP and continue my research activities while further improving myself.
* Mr. Naoki Yamauchi (Ph.D., Graduate School of Life Science) and Mr. Yongjun Kim (Ph.D., Graduate School of Chemical Sciences and Engineering) were absent, but I will introduce Mr. Kim's greeting.
Yongjun Kim: Through ALP, I was able to gain various experiences for five years. In particular, I will never forget the experience of being able to study for three months at a laboratory in England during an overseas internship. I haven't decided on a course yet, and I am considering multiple possibilities, but I believe that I will be able to make the most of the abilities I acquired at ALP. I regret that I was unable to attend the graduation ceremony. Thank you very much to all the ALP teachers, the secretariat, and everyone in the same period.
