On the day of the event, about 50 people from all over the country, including citizens, current graduate students, and faculty members, gathered despite the bad weather due to snow on the day of the holiday. The event was not in the form of a so-called symposium or panel discussion, but in the form of a "roundtable conference" in which 11 diverse speakers sat around one table and exchanged opinions. While watching the roundtable discussion, the audience posted their opinions, questions, and impressions via SNS with the hashtag #ph_discover_kickoff, and there was also a scene where the speakers developed their stories in response to these comments.
The speakers (titles omitted) are the following 11 people.
- Yukihiro Maru (Group CEO, Leave a Nest Co., Ltd.)
- Takashi Hitomi (Director Oracle Corporation Japan)
- Chiharu Kura (Kobe Steel, Ltd.)
- Riku Takahashi (NTT Basic Research Laboratories)
- Kazuya Iseda (Human Resources Department, Asahi Kasei Corporation)
- Takuya Yoshihara (Specially Specially Appointed, Human Resources Development Division, Hokkaido University University)
- Toshiyuki Nakagaki (Professor, Hokkaido University University / Director, Research Institute for Electronic Science)
- Jun Masamune (Professor, Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University University)
- Masaki Kato (Department URA, Hokkaido University)
- Tamako Otsu (Associate Professor, Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University University)
- Koichiro Ishimori (Professor, Faculty of Science, Hokkaido University University / Ph.Discover project representative)
Mr. Ishimori, who serves as the representative, presented the following issues for doctoral human resources, which is the purpose of this event at the beginning.
The talk session started with Yukihiro Maru, who acted as the moderator, proceeding at a good tempo. It will introduce a part of.
Mr. Maru asked, "How about adopting a curriculum in graduate school that requires longer physical distances?" Various opinions were exchanged, and one of the most impressive was Mr. Masamune's remarks.
Masamune: By living in different cultural spheres, preferably three or more, you will be able to develop communication skills that allow you to take an objective perspective and see things from the other person's point of view...
Maru: I've recently come to strongly feel the importance of 3D thinking and even 4D thinking with the addition of a time axis. By coming into contact with and understanding different cultures and values, it becomes possible to take a three-dimensional view of society. This kind of experience is not only required for doctoral students, but will be very important as a human skill in a society that respects diversity. What is happening at the same time in various parts of the world by adding a time axis? It is also possible to predict the future, such as the possibility that different regions may be connected at some point.
Mr. Takahashi and Mr. Kura, who completed the Hokkaido University Doctoral Program for Leading Educational Materials Science (ALP), strongly urged me to intersect with different fields at ALP when I was in graduate school, and the experiences and discoveries I gained there were There was an introduction that he was being kept alive as a member of society.
Kura: When I was in graduate school, I often struggled with balancing research with my studies, but along the way I realized that "what I don't understand or don't know is a scary thing." While battling such fears, I experienced gaining new knowledge as a graduate student, and I continue to practice the act of knowing even now, and now I feel that "knowing" leads to my own sense of security.
